When working on this issue:
i noticed that it is possible to type more characters into a numeric input than it can show. I think this should not be possible as it is not obvious (less obvious than with text) that the whole number is not visible.
This is a good although questionable UX issue. It should definitely not limit what should be displayed if received. Would there be other solution to the problem? Like making the font smaller to fit in? Or to display a visual hint e. g. …?
